Removed case front bezel to protect
acrylic and removed both side panels.
Installed floppy disk drive into
the topmost 3.5” bay using four black screws.

Connected floppy power lead from
power supply and floppy ribbon cable between main board
and drive. The red stripe on the ribbon cable is oriented
towards pin 1 of the connectors on the main board (down)
and the floppy drive (towards power header).
Later replaced the ribbon cable
with a rounded floppy cable. The rounded cable has keyed
connectors that only fit one way.

To test the installation, inserted an
old Windows 98 emergency boot disk into the floppy drive and
turned the system on.
The POST messages are:
- No IDE hard disk detected
- System completed power on self test
- Computer now booting from operating system
The floppy disk drive is
recognized as drive “A:”

The Windows 98 startup menu is
read from the floppy.

Success! The first operating system is running.
